I applied through Volunteer Services, but because of my criminal history, I was not approved. I served 12.5 years in SCDC. During that time I worked as a teachers aide, remained disciplinary free, developed databases for PUSD and SCDC using Access, and studied chess. For three years I tutored the young men in both the SHOCK and YOIP. Today I work as a network analyst and am studying to become a network engineer. My idea is to create a chess environment at DJJ. Chess illustrated the doctrine of logical consequence. It provides a blueprint for thinking. Besides chess sets, I'd also campaign for state chess club sponsorships and visits by chess masters. I also attempted to teach chess at the SC Youth Challenge Program. I graduated from the Virginia Youth Challenge Program in 1996, class 5. Again, I was denied due to my record. Since my release I have successfully completed 2 years of community supervision. I have has zero contact with law enforcement. I cannot imagine an better example of reform. Please consider my request. Should I not be able to share chess with the youth of either program, please advise me of any program relating to at-risk youth that will accept my history and allow me to teach chess. Thanks so much. 70.199.224.212
