Video gambling sweep pays off

Authorities seize more than 200 machines from warehouses
BY SCHUYLER KROPF
Of The Post and Courier Staff

Day 2 of the statewide sweep against illegal video gambling machines netted agents a treasure trove.

More than 200 complete machines, plus parts to build dozens more, were found Thursday in warehouses in Charleston, Spartanburg and Little River on the Grand Strand. Some were just the game cabinets; some were just computer boards.

Holliday declined to discuss what each machine cost, but a police estimate put them at as much as $3,500 each, meaning the monetary haul for the two-day sweep could approach $1 million.

The searches will continue, Stewart said.
