It is amazing, embarrassing and frustrating to see the volume of debris discarded along our state's roadways. However, to put more correction detainees on the side of the the road collecting trash, soliciting businesses to "adopt" roadways or generating advertisements supporting litter programs does not get to the root cause and will not solve the problem of "too much trash on roadsides". My wife and I have attempted to maintain a two mile stretch of roadway here in our county over the past decade. During this same period I have contacted local and state lawmakers as well as code enforcement in an attempt to address the root cause with little or no support. I realize this is not an overnight fix while correcting a generations of mindsets to the problem but as some great indivdual said a long journey begins with the first step. Governor Haley, I am asking for your support in addressing the root cause of our litter problem and offer my support in this effort.
