U.S. Sen. McCain endorses Quinn in treasurer race

Associated Press

Former state Rep. Rick Quinn says he's received the endorsement of Arizona Sen. John McCain in his bid for state treasurer.

"He's a personal friend. I'm happy to have his help," Quinn said.

Quinn says he's known the potential Republican presidential candidate for years. His father's political consulting firm, Richard Quinn and Associates, helped lead McCain's 2000 presidential bid.

McCain's U.S. Senate office did not immediately respond to questions about the e-mail sent out using his name.

That message notes that Quinn "worked tirelessly for me in South Carolina against overwhelming odds" in the 2000 GOP presidential primary. McCain lost here to President Bush, leaving what some still see as a Bush-McCain divide in state Republican politics.
