Governor Haley was already kind enough to send Certificates of Commendation to (4) children in Sumter County who formed their own fire brigade and doused 2 campfires that were abandoned in Poinsett State Park back in November, and I know the family of those children were very pleasantly honored by her recognition of their brave act.

These children will be honored at 4:00 PM on THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON in front of the office building within Poinsett State Park, in Wedgefield, SC.

It is my understanding that the Fire Chiefs of Sumter County have had trophies created to present and will have (2) Chiefs and a Fire Truck on site to honor these children.

It is also my understanding that the SC Department of Parks and Recreation had an interest in acknowledging the acts of bravery that were displayed within Poinsett, although I have not heard back from Ranger McCants at Poinsett to confirm their participation.

My Assistant Cubmaster and I will be presenting Certificates of Merit and Bravery to each child, even though these children are not presently engaged in Scouting. 

If the Governor would like to make a special appearance and meet these children for herself, we would be truly honored to have her join us.
