- Two state senators from the Midlands have asked
Governor Mark Sanford to delay asking the federal
government to change South Carolina's Medicaid rules.
Senators Joel Lourie and Darrell Jackson say Medicaid
participants, doctors and lawmakers haven't had enough
time to talk about the major changes in the program,
which provides health care for about 850,000 of the
state's neediest residents.
The changes include creating personal health accounts
for participants and ending eligibility for children's
Medicaid benefits at age 18 instead of 21.
