Memorandums of Understanding (MOU's)
There are currently six MOU's between Queensland and South Carolina in the areas of education, commerce, tourism, tourism student exchange, educational media and the general sister-state agreement.
Sister-State AgreementThe Sister-State agreement encourages both states to facilitate favorable conditions for cooperation in areas of education, technology, science, economic development, tourism, culture, health, and sports to include the establishment of direct contacts between people, enterprises, and organizations. When possible, the states will organize and coordinate mutual visits and exchange delegations to the extent practicable and desirable.

Commerce MOUThe Commerce MOU enables opportunities for the two governments to work together towards increasing economic activity. The two states agreed to enter into a limited arrangement to explore new investment opportunities and facilitate the opening of new markets in their respective states.

Tourism MOUSome of the highlights of the Tourism MOU are to enable South Carolina and Queensland to compare best practices, exchange marketing information and promote sports development.

Tourism Student ExchangeThis MOU establishes the exchange program which enables up to eight tourism students from each state to study at a participating college or university.

Educational MediaThe Educational Media MOU emphasizes using technology to provide educational resources and is being developed via the Internet utilizing the technological capabilities of both South Carolina Educational Television and AccessEd, Department of Education. EdMates, the website developed as part of the ongoing participation in the MOU, can be found at www.edmates.org.

Education Memorandum of Understanding
March 2002 heralded the signing of the Education Memorandum of Understanding. Under the new agreement between the South Carolina Department of Education and the Queensland Government, a range of collaborative projects will be developed which will include teacher and student exchanges, joint curriculum projects and the exchange of educational publications and materials. The overarching goals of the agreement are to advance education, disseminate knowledge and promote educational, social, and cultural development between the two states.
