FORESTRY 101 OFFERED TO FOREST LANDOWNERS

LEXINGTON---The Lexington County Extension office invites landowners to participate in Forestry 101, a forestry course designed for beginners who wish to refresh their knowledge of forestry. The course will be held at the Lexington County Extension Office, 605 West Main St., Suite 109, (the old Kroger grocery store behind the Lizard’s Thicket) in Lexington for six weeks beginning Thursday, February 7, 2002. Except for the final class, which is forest taxation, each class will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Forestry 101 is the same course that college students would take as an elective course but with little or no homework and no "Tests."

Cost for the class is $30. For those who wish to buy the college text, the cost is an additional $50 for the textbook, Forest and Forestry, 5th Edition. The text is not mandatory, but is a great all-around reference book for forest landowners. Even though course participants may choose not to purchase the textbook, they will receive a course outline and helpful handouts.

The deadline for pre-registration for the Forestry 101 course is January 25, 2002. To pre-register for the course, call Carolyn Robinson, 803-534-6280.
