My husband is a Greenville County School District employee who has been with the school district for 20+ years. We were depending on that money from the Terry retirement plan to assist us with our retirement. This was shown as being a benefit for working for the school district on his hiring paperwork. Now after 20 years you just jerk this benefit out from under the states employees. Why didn't you do something like any one who has worked for the state 15 years or more will be grandfathered into the Terry plan? If you have been with the school district less than 15 years you will get a one time bonus of 1k (making them sign a paper giving up all their rights to the Terry plan before being paid this 1k bonus) and all new employees will not be eligible for Terry or this bonus. That would have been a way to pay homage to your long time dedicated employees who have put in 15 years of their lives to work for our state, yet cover the ones who have been there a lesser time with a gift of gratitude and any new employees would not have this benefit. I just honestly think that there was a better way of handling this issue than the way it was handled, with no thought given to people who were hired and planning on working for the state to get this wonderful benefit that was offered to them at the time of their employment. I look forward to your response. Christina Stepp
