(Myrtle Beach-AP) July 29, 2003 - The state
Department of Social Services will cancel its contract
for child-support payment enforcement in four counties
because of budget cuts.
DSS will end the contract with Policy Studies
Incorporated on August 31st. The nationwide company
handles support enforcement in Horry, Georgetown, Marion
and Williamsburg counties.
A company spokesman says the company has 28 employees
who handle about 20,000 cases in the four counties.
Larry McKeown, state director of child-support
enforcement, says DSS caseworkers will take over the
program, because that's the way it's done in the state's
other 42 counties.
