Will
the third time be a charm for the half cent sales tax?
In
2000 voters rejected the tax. In 2002 it was passed, but
then the state supreme court threw it out. The court
said the ballot language was leading, so charleston county
council has reworked the question. The original
instruction to voters was to vote yes if they were "in favor
of the traffic congestion relief, safe roads, and clean water
sales tax."
The new wording tells voters to vote yes if
they are "in favor of levying the special sales and use tax."
