Having traveled all over the state recently, I see first hand how bad some of our roads are. I can only imagine the condition of bridges. When I travel to Florida, I pay 30-40 cents more per gallon for fuel. When Floridians come to S.C., they find a bargain. I am paying for Florida road repairs; why aren't visiting Floridians paying for the roads they drive on in S.C.? With gasoline prices so low, now is the time when an increase would be better accepted by residents. In fact, most of the people with whom I discuss this are strongly in favor of increasing the fuel tax. Please reconsider your stance on this subject. I truly believe you will encounter much less resistance that you might expect.
