Holly 12.156.103.194 Dear Governor Haley, On November 30, Century Mt. Holly was told by Santee Cooper that its latest proposal for a new power contract had been rejected heralding the imminent death of the most modern and efficient aluminum smelter in the U.S. On November 2, Alcoa announced that it would curtail operations at several of its smelters across the country. One of the smelters affected was the Massena West facility in New York. Just 22 days later, Alcoa announced a 3½ year agreement had been reached with the State of New York to keep the Massena West plant operating. The employees of Mt. Holly are not asking for a similar handout. Contrary to statements made by Santee Cooper, Century Aluminum's proposal to pay Santee Cooper to transmit the power it has procured from an out-of-state power provider would NOT raise rates for Santee Cooper customers, would NOT overload the system and would NOT unfairly favor the aluminum smelter over other South Carolina businesses. It's a win-win for the 600+ Mt. Holly employees and for the State of South Carolina. Please do what you can to save our plant! Thank you very much and I hope that you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
