Throughout my career, I have been stationed at many locations, one of which was Charleston, SC. By far, Charleston has been my favorite and I hope to go back at some point - likely after retirement as there are few USMC billets. While I was stationed in Charleston, I purchased a house in Summerville, SC because I enjoyed the area so much. As often happens, I received orders and had to move to California and was forced to rent the house as the market would not sell the house without taking a sizable loss. I recently tried to sell the house again, but it would not sell - so I must rent out again and try again next year. All this said, I received a notice that my taxes are again going higher on the property and I am almost at the point of just letting it go in a short sell. When I lived in the house, my taxes were about 1800/year on an appraised value of 215k. As of this year, my taxes are $4,811.85 on an appraised value of 192,000. I honestly don't understand how the math even works out on that. All I ask is that you consider helping me and anyone like me. I should not be penalized for being forced to leave the state due to military orders...If I had known it would be this bad, I would not have invested in a property in the state. I ask to be given owner-occupied residential tax status on my home, and ask that all past taxes be refunded (or for legislation to be introduced to this affect). Thank you, Maj Rick Cary
