Butler Rd. Apt. 233 Greenville SC 29607 stharri777@att.net 864-277-7238 EDUC Grading floor 209.65.164.160 Governor Haley, I am writing you to ask why we, as a state, have a grading floor for students prior to 10th grade? Are we that fragile as a state to not allow our children to have grades they earn recorded, good or bad? What message are we sending our children with this practice? "Hey Johnny, as long as you show up to school, you will receive at least a 60 on everything. In that case, you can make it up and get an 80 on something and you will pass." Are we really handing out "participation trophies" in school? This is a terrible message to get the children used to. What happens when they get out in the real world and there are 10 jobs, but 5000 people go out for it. Are the companies offering jobs going to say, "If you show up, we will give you a job."? No, because there are only 10 jobs. The other 4990 people have to go find another job. There are no "participation trophies" in life. Why send that message to our children? I know you are not in charge of the Department of Education, but something has to be done about this! We are raising children to be lazy. What's worse is that when the kids that work hard realize that there is a grading floor, what is their incentive to do well?? Extremely concerned citizen, Steve Harrison
