Main Street Spartanburg SC 29307 laurens8455@hotmail.com JOBS Defining the Workweek, instead of higher minimum wage (Let me say that it was an Honor meeting and talking to you at the Beacon Restaurant Get together. This community needs to appreciate and thank you for what you do for the people, the surroundings and for standing up for what is right. I thank you and really appreciate what you do and where you stand.) To get to the point, this wage fight needs to be addressed, for the person just getting out of high school, those ending college, those that have been working for years and those in dead-end jobs and for those that are being used by the corporate giants. To say the least, this minimum wage is just that: the lowest a company can pay a person that is doing the work. Now, if anyone is interested, the minimum wage does not have to be changed, but the way that the United States sees a wage earner needs to be changed, for the good of the nation, for the employee and for the people looking for higher paid jobs. Let us start with demanding a defined work week, say Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday being paid differently. There are so many companies that hire "managers" and "salary" people who are worked to death, with their hours mounting over 100 hours per week without compensation of pay. Most people do not want to work Saturday and Sunday and these are the days that employers demand that the lower wage earner work, just because those people have to work to make ends meet. What the United States needs is for the people to be paid weekly, with Monday through Friday, from 7 am till 5 pm being paid at regular time, with anything over 8 hours a day, being paid over- time at the rate of 1 1/2 times. Saturday would be double time and Sunday would be triple time. In this way, there would be money in circulation (not just 1 or 2 pay periods per month) and the money would be in circulation longer. The companies would not be able to use the system to work the people multiple hours in two weeks without being compensated for the hours worked. The companies would eventually hire more workers and not abuse the ones already working for them. People need help these days and the employees are being abused and used by the corporate giants. It is a time for wage reform. thank you, larry wright 251 s. main street spartanburg, S.C
