(Columbia) -- The Ways and Means Committee says extra money generated by the lottery this year and next year will go for more college scholarships.
The budget committee plans to spend $329 million from the lottery. That includes $56 million expected to be left over at the end of this year and $22 million from reducing costs at the Lottery Commission.
Budget writers agreed to give LIFE Scholarships nearly $93 million in lottery revenue, up from $40 million this year.
The Palmetto Fellows Scholarships will get nearly eleven million dollars, up from five million dollars this year.
The HOPE scholarship program will get six million dollars.
Scholarships for low-income students will increase from three million dollars to 13 million dollars.
