Sept. 19 S.C. Prescribed Fire Council annual meeting set at Brosnan Forest in Dorchester
The S.C. Prescribed Fire Council will hold its annual meeting Thursday, Sept. 19 at Norfolk Southern Railroad's Brosnan Forest in Dorchester. Those attending can hear the latest in prescribed fire research, updates on legislation and the most recent information about smoke and air quality issues.
The $25 registration fee includes lunch and a T-shirt. Register online. Registration is open through Sept. 13. For more information, call Derrick Phinney at (843) 563-0135, Extension 3.
Anyone having an interest in prescribed burning is encouraged to attend. The S.C. Prescribed Fire Council annual meeting is intended for landowners, land managers, consultants, and conservation organization staff who use prescribed fire to achieve resource management goals.

* Longleaf Pine for the Future, Robert Abernethy, Longleaf Alliance;
* Ecology and Management of Oak Woodlands and Savannas, Gary Burger, S.C. Department of Natural Resources;

* Southern Fire Exchange Update: Highlights from Recent Research that You Can Use, Alan Long, Southern Fire Exchange;
* S.C. Forestry Commission Update & Prescribed Fire Statistics, Darryl Jones, S.C. Forestry Commission;
* Field Tour of Brosnan Forest, Josh Raglan, Norfolk Southern
Among the cooperators in the S.C. Prescribed Fire Council is a collection of private organizations and individuals and state and federal agencies, including private landowners, The Nature Conservancy, S.C. Forestry Commission, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, Clemson University, U.S. Forest Service, National Wild Turkey Federation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Department of Defense, Nemours Wildlife Foundation, S.C. Forestry Association, Natural Resources Conservation Service, S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, National Park Service, Plantation Managers' Association and Association of Consulting Foresters.
The S.C. Prescribed Fire Council annual meeting has been approved for 4.5 hours of Category 1 continuing forestry education (CFE) credits.
