Thank you Katherine. I just picked these up.
Unfortunately, Nikky (not Nikki) Finney’s name is misspelled on her certificate. Can I ask for a corrected one?
Thanks so much for getting these done for our award recipients.

Rusty, the certificates are ready. I have them in my office in the Wade Hampton Building, 1st floor, but will be happy to get them over to the Statehouse if that is more convenient for you. Just let me know.
Thanks.

Rusty,
Do the certificates that Katherine is working on come straight to me or would you like to pick them up from our office for you to hang on to?

Thank you Nicole!
We will have a photographer, likely Molly Harrell, who has done this with us before.
We are in the process of hearing back from our honorees about exactly who will be accepting the award. I’ll provide the list as soon as we’ve heard from everyone. We will be very clear with the honorees that they can only bring one person in with them. I remember how crowded it got last year.
Thanks for all your help with this. It means so much to these great folks.

Rusty-
Governor Haley is available for a photo with the winners in her office at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 11th. Will you have a photographer with you, or will our office need to provide one? Also- it would be best if we limit the attendees to just 1 additional attendee. Will this be ok? Can you provide me with a list of names?
In regards to your request for certificates, I have copied Katherine Thomas on this email. She can assist with this.
Thanks,
Nicole

Happy Monday, Nicole!
I am following up on this request for a photo opportunity with the Governor on Wednesday, May 11. We will be at the State House for the awards presentation at 11:00 a.m. It would be perfect if the governor could see us right after the presentation (around 11:30) or, failing that, immediately before (around 10:30). We are trying to keep all State House events within one time frame this year – some of our honorees are elderly and bringing them back in the afternoon is difficult.
Also, the Governor has typically prepared certificates and/or letters of congratulation for the honorees. Would that be possible again this year?
As a reminder, this year’s award recipients are:
Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Awards
§ Nikky Finney, Columbia
· Artist: Mary Edna Fraser, Charleston
· Individual: Betty Plumb, Rock Hill
· Arts in Education: Joye in Aiken, Aiken
· Business/Foundation: The Phifer-Johnson Foundation/The Johnson Collection, Spartanburg
· Government: The City of Greenville, South Carolina
· Organization: The Columbia Museum of Art, Columbia
Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Awards
Mr. Harold Clayton, Laurens (posthumous)
Chief Bill Harris, Catawba Nation, Rock Hill
Thanks for all your help. Please let me know if you have questions or need more information. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Rusty-
I hope you are doing well. Thank you for extending an invitation to Governor Haley to participate in the 2016 South Carolina Art Awards presentation on Wednesday, May 11th. Governor Haley appreciates your kind consideration, but she regrettably will be unable to participate in the event on that date. She may be able to greet honorees and pose for photos at some point that afternoon. I am not sure of exactly what time will work, so it would be best to reach back out a month or so before the event. Hopefully I will have a better understanding of the Governor’s availability on the afternoon of that date about a month or so before.
Thanks,
Nicole

Dear Nicole,
We're planning for the 2016 South Carolina Arts Awards, and I wanted to go ahead and make contact. You may recall that last year Governor Haley took time to greet our honorees and pose for photos at her office. This year, our date for the awards is Wednesday, May 11.
These are the official Governor's Awards for the Arts. Last year the Lt. Governor presented the awards in the lower lobby rotunda just outside the Governor’s Office We would like to explore the possibility of having the Governor present the awards this year. The presentation ceremony would take place at around 11 a.m., but we have some flexibility on the precise time. It would only require the Governor to step out to the rotunda, say a few brief words of appreciation, hand out the awards as a narrator reads a brief tribute, and pose for photos. The entire event would last about 20 minutes.
If the above is not possible, we hope the Governor would agree to greet the award recipients outside her office and pose for photos as she did last year.
You might be interested to know that Hootie and the Blowfish will receive an award this year, among others. Here is a link to a press release that lists all of this year’s honorees.

I hope we can work together again this year to provide a great State House experience for our award recipients. Please let me know if you have questions or need more information.
Sincerely,
Rusty Sox
