It is a waste of tax payer money and is not based in sound science. Studies show that coyote populations are self-sustaining in that they increase or decrease litter sizes, depending on environmental stressors, meaning that the more they are hunted, the larger and more successful the litters they have, maintaining an overall balance, even is there is an immediate decline. The population would have to be culled by 75% every year to maintain a decline year after year, something that is impossible to accomplish. Coyotes are only present because a niche was left open with the extirpation of the red wolf. It is time to stop needless and wasteful spending and killing and fund non-lethal coyote deterrents that have much higher success rates.
