Sanford Opens Cabinet Meetings
to Media |
Governor Mark Sanford opens the doors to
the meida and allows reporters to sit in on today's cabinet
meeting. The cabinet meeting is the second one since the governor
took office. However, following the first meeting Sanford has been
widely criticized for closing the meeting to the public and the
media. Today the Governor defended his original decision, saying
he felt the meetings would be more effective closed. He stressed
that his change of heart had nothing to do with media criticism and
pressure. But rather was in response to his fear that local councils
and school boards might follow his expample and also close their
meetings. He says decisions like that do not lead to effective
government. John Shurr, Associated Press Columbia Bureau Chief
says he is happy with the Governor's decision. He feels the best
government occurs in the sunshine. |
