We've actually received several inquiries why Althea Gibson is not present in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. To be eligible, nominees must be a North Carolina native or a non-native who has maintained official residence for ten consecutive years. Ms. Gibson was actually born in South Carolina and only lived in North Carolina for approximately 4 years during her high school years. That is why she is not featured in the Sports Hall of Fame.
