My husband was diagnosed with thyroid cancer about 5 years ago.  The doctor at that time thought he removed everything, but he didn't. Now five years later with a lump in my husband neck he has been diagnosed with stage 4 Medullary Carcinoma.  It has taken over  parts of his esophagus, vocal cords and now is on his liver and under his arm, he cannot work, he can barley talk.  We are currently being treated at MUSC.  I am the only one working.  While trying to get disability, and him some insurance so his insurance doesn't stop at his current job "Terminix", because hes out on FMLA and I have to pay $168 bi weekly to keep it going and I am also under his policy. We took a day and a half to go to the Medicaid office in Lexington and down to the Strom Thurmond building on Main Street.  They at the disability office said we don't qualify for certain things because I make too much money, and same at the Medicaid office and food stamp office in Lexington, and if he did qualify for disability he wouldn't get a check until January, with no back pay.  Well you know what , thats why alot of people are living in boxes on the streets of SC and or loose or have to belittle themselves to get by. I work at a doctors office ,they at the disability and medicaid and food stamp office take my gross, not net and that's what they go by.  I am the only provider, I can't fork out 400 for him for insurance and pay the rent and food and car etc.  They wouldn't consider him for Medicare nor early retirement, he is 50. I have two children in their twenty's and two grandchildren.  Another bomb got dropped on me last week, I got a call stating that my husbands genetic testing came back positive, that means all of my children and their children have to be tested and have a 50 percent chance in their life of getting this disease.  I can't do this alone.  The Medicaid office seems to disagree with the disability office, they said they he should not have to wait five month.  I have medical bills pilling up on my counter, I cry all the time, I am trying to be strong but the system doesn't seem to work for us.  We have worked since we were 15, we deserve help.  We are american citizens.  Please help me.  I make 16.70 and hour for Palmetto Health, I bring home every two weeks 900.00 that's not enough to pay all I have to pay and not have to sell every thing we own, and count on my parents who have health issues of their own. He could be dead in 5 months, please .. please help me.  Thank you</WFUD_Request>
