Williams Selected as SC Beef Board District III Representative
(Columbia, SC)---The SC Beef Board recently announced the selection of Edsel L. Williams of Britton's Neck in Marion County as the District III representative. On July 1, 2000, Williams was elected by began serving his 3-year term. A retired officer of the Pee Dee Federal Savings Bank of Marion, Williams lives with his wife, Jo Ann, on the family farm in Britton's Neck. As a farmer, Williams produces corn, soybeans, and small grains. But, he also has a small farrow-to-finish hog production as well as his cattle operation.
In addition to his duties on the farm, Williams is a tribute to his state, nation, and rural community through his civic achievements. Locally, he serves as Treasurer of the Britton's Neck Young Farmers Association, Master of the Britton's Neck Grange, officer in the Marion-Dillon Pomona Grange, and Treasurer of the Marion-Dillon County Fair. Williams also serves as Secretary of Centenary Masonic Lodge of which he has served as Master. Deeply devoted to the well-being of his community, Williams has served on the Britton's Neck School Board for over 20 years and is a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemingway where he serves as Brotherhood Director, a member of the choir, and a Sunday School teacher.
On the state level, Williams is a member of the SC Grange and Executive Treasurer of the SC Young Farmers Association. And, nationally, Williams is a Life member of the National Young Farmer Education Association. Williams will serve on the SC Beef Board with 12 other producer- members and an ex officio member. The Beef Board initiates programs that ensure the most efficient and effective us of producer checkoff dollars. One dollar per head on all cattle sold in the state is collected for the checkoff program. Half of that dollar is retained in the state for projects and programs. The other half goes to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB).
The SC Beef Board focuses on promotion, consumer information and education, research, industry information, producer communications, and market development. The SC Beef Board also exhibits at a variety of trade shows, meetings, and fairs around the state to encourage consumers to enjoy a healthy diet that includes beef.
