Conway High School anglers host, win Tiger Invitational Bass Tournament
The Tiger Invitational Bass Tournament started out with clouds, some drizzle and a slight wind for the March 25 tournament, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the high school anglers as they left Bucksport Marina on the Waccamaw River at 7 a.m. The anglers were rewarded with several hours of sunshine later in the morning until the appointed weigh-in at 1 p.m. Shortly thereafter heavy rains rolled in.
Potential inclement weather wasn't the only issue during the tournament as a team from Conway, which eventually took first place, had boat trouble along with an Aynor High School boat showing up too late to fish as it had a trolling motor malfunction.
The tournament winners were:
- 1st – Conway - 7.01 pounds - Brody Lavoie, Colin Drew
- 2nd – Aynor - 6.93 pounds - Graham Herrington, Caleb Cox (also the 2.2 pound Big Fish)
- 3rd – CF - 4.46 pounds - Corey Singleton, Austin Powell
- 4th – Waccamaw - 3.99 pounds - Blain Avant, Vincent Dimaggio
- 5th – Aynor - 3.70 pounds - Gage Dorman, Cole Cooper
- 6th – Waccamaw - 1.23 pounds - Gary Green, Dequan Funny
- 7th – Aynor - .97 - Mehdi Elkleddini, Hunter Chestnut
Interested in forming a bass fishing club at your school? All you need to do is get a minimum of six students (within the 11-18 year old range) with dues paid and you can have a Youth Bass Fishing Club. You'll also need an adult at your school to help lead the club, provide advice and help arrange at least two club tournaments, fundraisers, speakers and other learning sessions pertaining to fishing for club meetings.
The Youth Bass Fishing Clubs is a product of a partnership between the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and The Bass Federation of South Carolina with help and support from parents, teachers, school districts, local bait & tackle shops, community partners and Pure Fishing.
