I periodically requailed for this rating several times over a 21-year career. My military records show this qualification via award of the expert marksman ribbon that is reflected on my official DD Form 214 issued when I retired. All soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines on active duty who have qualified can easily demonstrate their status as having had training in safe use of weapons and demonstrated proficiency on a firing range, which includes different positions, firing with either hand( pistol/handgun) and target accuracy. Why can't we be issued SC concealed carry permits as a result? Why do people like me have to go through a short course, at some expense and time, to train to do something we have already been certified to do? What's more, the state approved concealed carry courses involve SLED checks, fingerprinting, and a record that goes into federal data bases alerting would-be gun confiscators where to show up? A simple application to SLED along with documentation proving qualification to check for criminal record should be sufficient for approval of a permit. I can guarantee you that the level and quality of military weapons training is superior to local instruction from a gun shop. CAN THIS BE DONE? Ken Schaub
