State to lower
flags for King funeral
Flags across South Carolina will fly at half staff the day
Coretta Scott King is buried in Atlanta.
The House and Senate on Wednesday approved a resolution ordering
flags lowered.
Gov. Mark Sanford had asked lawmakers to adopt the resolution
because he does not think state law gives him the authority to order
the flag lowered for King, the wife of slain civil rights leader
Martin Luther King Jr., who died Tuesday.
Three bills before the General Assembly would broaden state law
to allow Sanford to lower the flags any time Congress or the
president order flags to half staff at federal installations.
