Dear Dr. Moore,
Thank you for your letter about South Carolina's energy needs.
Energy independence is an extremely important matter to our state and
our nation. For too long, we have undermined our national security by
relying upon countries opposed to our interests in order to secure
energy that drives America's industrial and military might. Although
it is essential that we further develop domestic energy sources -
including advanced and alternative technologies - the government should
not pick and choose specific areas for further exploration.
South Carolina's businesses and researchers are already hard at work
finding innovative ways to provide citizens with alternative fuel
sources, including nuclear energy, offshore drilling, and wind, among
others. With private sector support, these technologies will yield
more energy in the future to strengthen our state's infrastructure and
business climate and reduce our dependence on foreign states' supplies.
Again, thank you for your interest in energy policy in South Carolina;
please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of assistance on this
or any other issue. God bless.
My very best,
Nikki R. Haley
