I did not know who to address it to in your office. There were also three soldiers waiting the next morning with the same complaint. They had $100 for over night expenses!! A terrible way to treat our soldiers!! As well, as myself, a retiree!! Please look in to this practice. To: Bianca Virk, GM Holiday In Express, Fort Jackson On Tuesday, April 5th my husband and I stopped at your hotel for the night on our way back to Florida. We ALWAYS stay at Holiday Inn Express. I usually make reservations ahead but did not this time because we were not sure where we would stop. It was about 8:30 when we did stop and I was not too concerned about price since I had always paid about the same no matter where we were. Usually between $100-$139. Imaging my shock when I received a bill for $319.19!! The two young men at the desk did not mention that prices were more than double due to a golf tournament over 75 miles away!! We are not golf enthusiasts so had no idea. I told the clerk that I had AAA or AARP for additional discount and he said o.k. I take half the blame for not asking the price but also feel that he neglected to mention the price increase on purpose. He knew we were not there for golf. I checked the next morning with the Hampton Inn next to you and they were a little less expensive but also told me that definitely let over night guests know about the price increase. Your clerks did not! As we walked away , they were laughing and now I know why! Whatever I initialed that night had no price, still I was not alerted! The next morning there were three soldiers at the desk waiting to see you and they had the same issue. What a disgrace that Holiday Inn Express also gouges our soldiers. I am going to contact the Corporate Headquarters as well as the Governor of this practice. I feel a price increase of over twice the regular price constitutes gouging. I thought this was against the law! I also feel cheated that I was not informs at check-in. That is a terrible oversight if the clerks know you are only there for the night. At $319.19 , that comes to almost $40 an hour to rest!! We always stay at Holiday Inn Express but will rethink that habit from now on! I am requesting at least half of my money back. I feel this is only fair. &150.00 a night is too high but I will pay that amount if you agree. Please let me know what , if anything, will be done.
