I am a lifelong resident of Union County. Back in March of 2016 a 9 mile stretch of Highway 49 West from the intersection of 176 ByPass in Union to Cross Keys has been under a repaving. The first block from 176 had pavement ground away but the remaining highway was covered over. Here we are in mid June with this work not completed. Weeks have passed with maybe a day or 2 of work activity but no real paving going on now for 3 weeks. The section that was ground has holes and different layers exposed.
The quality of work that we receive is a joke. Sloan Construction evidently could not handle this and a sub was brought in from Augusta. Several miles of cones are out when they do work in a small section which causes traffic to back up and wait times exceed 15 mins due to lead vehicles not knowing what they are doing to lead traffic thru. This is why I am mad that DOT wants more money but no oversite is done on what they are spending. If I personally had this type of work being done at my home, they would be fired or never would have begun. Why give more money to a group that has no real agenda for accountability or deadlines to get work done. If 9 miles of 2 lane road cannot be paved in 4 months, we should go back to dirt roads. This is a joke. and to top it off, fill dirt that is being added to the shoulders has causes gouges in the new asphalt by the contractor trying to make the red dirt even with the new road level. Sloppy Slow work.
