damage

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Half of the applications for
federal loans to repair damage from flooding earlier this summer
have been rejected.
The loans were a last resort for many residents after Greenville
county and city governments failed to qualify for any other type of
federal aid to repair the nearly $6 million in damages caused by
flooding from heavy rains in July. The floods damaged more than 175
homes.
Ten of the 20 residents who have asked for loans from the Small
Business Administration have been turned down for reasons ranging
from poor credit to not filing tax returns.
Seventeen residents and four businesses turned in loan
applications. Two residents and one business have received loans,
said SBA spokesman Matt Young. Others are still under review.
