Join all three U.S. House Members in coastal districts and nearly every community in opposition. Shell has left Alaska, oil is $40/barrel, and the world is awash with oil and gas, including fracking in the U.S. See the link: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-09-22/fossil-fuel-divestment-movement-exceeds-2-6-trillion. One auto analyst believes that Volkswagen, after the cheating scandal, may go full bore for electric cars. If so, other OEMs will probably follow, so Europe will not need oil potentially off the U.S. east coast. South Carolina will benefit very little from drilling and the risks are potentially great from spills, etc. Tourism is huge economically for our state. We can't risk losing that to an oil disaster. People already questioned whether to visit coastal SC in the wake of the horrible flooding in October. Imagine the tourism loss if we had an oil spill off the coast.
