Haley Governor of South Carolina 1205 Pendleton Street Columbia, SC 29201 Dear Governor: I wish I was writing your office under better circumstances. I know that employing South Carolinians and reducing the unemployment rate in our great state has been at the top of your agenda since you took office. Unfortunately not all state agencies are following your lead. I am currently working as a temporary employee with the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Agency. I have been here for a little over 2 years. I have always received glowing reviews of my work and have counted myself as a valuable member of the team. Granted, I understand that business decisions need to be made and these things happen from time to time. What I take issue with is the current hiring practices and procedures put in place by the new Human Resources Director, James Galluzzo. In the past, whenever an open position comes available the temporary staff are encouraged to apply and someone from within usually gets the open position. We have an extremely talented and experienced pool of temporary employees ready and willing to take on full time positions. Recently, 2 FTE positions came available. The majority of the temporary staff applied for the positions. HR refused to even interview any of them. They ended up hiring 2 people from out of state, one from Ohio and one from Florida. I feel that this change in attitude and posture is detrimental to the workforce in South Carolina. Why hire from out of state when you have capable and talented people from within? There are still way too many people from our great state in the unemployment line and I feel that so much more can be done. Thank you for your consideration and time. Respectfully Yours, A Concerned Citizen
