Midlands Striper Club donates $7500 to DNR
The Midlands Striper Club recently donated $7500 to the Freshwater Fisheries Section of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for the purchase of a new oxygen generator. Striped bass fingerlings require excellent water quality and their health will quickly deteriorate under stress or degradation of water quality.
Several members of the Midlands Striper Club were at the DNR September Board meeting to present the donation to Ross Self, Chief of Freshwater Fisheries; Emily Cope, Deputy Director of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries; Alvin Taylor, Director of DNR; and Johnny Evans, Chairman of the DNR Board.
Some of the funds donated to DNR over the years by Midlands Striper Club include:
* 2010: Nearly $6000 to fund an oxygenation system for the striped bass fingerling stocking transport truck to help ensure fingerling survivability.
* 2006: Earmarked $6000 for electroshock equipment for the DNR striped bass brood stock hatchery program.
* 2003: $5000 for a recirculation pump at DNR’s Bayless Striped Bass Hatchery.
Midlands Striper Club, founded in 1979, is one of the oldest striped bass fishing organizations in the country. Since 2001, the club's members have donated over $45,000 to DNR for striped bass research and stock enhancements in the Palmetto State.
