Why Horry County residents can not park for free is mind boggling. They have fought against this enactment from the start.I called the City Yesterday and they laughed at me. Said sorry sir bottom line is this law benefits the City and you must pay. I brought up the pitfalls of the system and the response was the same: sorry sir you pay. Really and one wonders who they work for? Taxpayers? Guess not. It's not like they got in bed with the Chinese to sell golf courses and land and it's going to collapse like a house of cards. (ponzie Scheme) Really who invests 145 million in Myrtle Beach? Pays cash for everything and no questions asked? They did the same thing with this law by not giving any thought to the people it would effect. Summary of law:No free access any longer for anyone but residents of City of Myrtle Beach and a guest. A pass is available for a fee of $100 for the season but you can only park in two lots around 2nd avenue. how law works: Must call a number posted on a sign(requires you to bring a cell phone-(not everyone carries a cell phone))Must give driver's license number and license number of vehicle and give the time you arrive. (personal information over the phone?? perfect opportunity for hacking and abuse when even your office states not to give personal information to anyone over the phone) Must give a credit card number over the phone. Really??? How do we know the system is secure? we don't.Must call back when you leave and go through the process again to settle charges? payment options are $10 for day or $2 per hour.Problems:Pay for a day but leave to go find a bathroom, get lunch, or any reason come back and no spot? Not fair.Want to go for a walk on the beach but can't unless you pay? From 6am until midnight? Unfair. System problems:Security, Back logs, anyone can go to any access point and re-mark the phone number with a fraudulent number and bang you have just given out your drivers license number, your home address, a credit card number, your license plate number, type of vehicle, basically told someone you are not at your residence.System fails, system busy and cant get through. Are you supposed to not use the beach until a representative answers the phone? Stupid. Doesn't beach reclamation fees come from Federal Gov't and possibly the State? It's a beach what are the funds collected used for?How does a citizen know what is being done with the money. Isn't the Beach why people move to Myrtle Beach and Horry County? And now we have to pay to walk on the beach? Shouldn't residents of Horry County be given a pass just like the City of Myrtle Beach Residents? Now we are told where we can and can not use the beach if we buy a $100 pass? I live by 50th Ave North and use 62nd north to allow the hotel guests and tourists to use 2nd through 38th. Why am I being forced to use 2nd when I bought a pass and the packing is not even at the beach. Doesn't the State have rules and Laws? We have to pay to use Hunnington Beach State Park. (at least there are bathrooms there.) This law was hastily enacted. Thoughtful dialog with residents and the County Leaders of Horry County was dismissed. Discriminatory practices were passed to enhance the pockets of City Government before addressing the needs of County Residents. As I see it the City of Myrtle Beach is part of Horry County and this is a county wide issue not a land locked eminent domain legislative action. This law was no different than when the City enacted a mandatory Helmet law within City limits and when enough people sued the law was repealed as it was a discriminatory law designed to penalize and enrich the City of Myrtle Beach. I am asking you to get involved at the State level, to support Horry County Government, and to stop the City of Myrtle Beach from this discriminatory practice. I will not give out my personal information over a non-secure, extremely flawed and hackable, and easily manipulated system that has no consequence for misuse or a system that has not been tested. Who enforces the law, What is done with the revenue collected, Etc. This system is unsecure and in today's environment of Identity theft this system provides a perfect opportunity for Identity Theft. Residents of Myrtle Beach and Horry County outside City limits should have the same rights to use public access beaches that are receiving Federal Funds. I ask you to get involved. Jeffrey Gohn
