My request is that the staff member whom receives this finds the information worthy of your attention, and concern, and forwards it to you directly. We relocated here, from NY, a year ago, due to my husband's illness and for a "better life" and in many ways, it is...this is a beautiful state, with wonderful, great Christian people, whom put conservative yet progressive morals and ethics behind each thoughtful decision and/or change. While our education, poverty issues and healthcare are moving forward, there are many more needed changes, especially within your education system. What I have discovered, is far too much "autonomy" which leads to unaccountability, confusion, discriminating practices and preferential treatment, toward some, while posing favoritism toward others, and the use of "school" and/or district "autonomy" and the reason, or excuse, for grave inconsistency, and children getting hurt, while others receive benefits underservingly. I would like to meet with you, as bold as I am, to share with you what I've experienced, that is NOT in the best interest of children/families, and possible solutions. I have worked to help families, as an educator, without judgement, and get great results, from the elementary level through to the collegiate level, because I believe most people are good, just need support and help..not false judgement and ignorance. I am firm, but fair, compassionate, but real...much like you..and we need more change...consistency, accountability, streamlined policies and procedures, etc. I would like to help make South Carolina's education system a better system that serves all it's children/families to the best of our ability, with fairness, intergrity, and a free and appropriate quality education. Thank you for your time. kathy disalvo 585 472-0128
