Gov. Nikki Haley, I have met you and your husband at an event at Socastee H.S., also at an event with Mitt Romney. I respect your husband's service as my son Robert is a Lt. Col. in NJ Army Guard, served under Col. Ferrari and Gen. Odierno in Iraq, and graduated from USAWC in Carlisle, PA. I reiterate my concerns about the removal of the Confederate flag and request that it be restored to its respected and honored position on Capitol grounds. The following is my message: HURRAY to SC Republican Chris Corley. Reproach to Republicans Gov. Nikki Haley, Sens. Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham, and Congressman Tom Rice for authorizing the removal of the Confederate flag from the statehouse capitol grounds. Restore the flag to its proper place. Stop encouraging NAACP and others by acquiescing to their demands to remove every vestige of our American History, a history which clearly includes the Civil War and all the Confederate monuments, symbols, and names. You do not change or alter history, or PURGE those parts you find offensive. Something in American history is offensive to someone somewhere. So be it. Live with it. You might not like a monument to Crazy Horse or General George Custer, or even a monument to Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis. Deal with it. It is a part of our history. We should TEACH history, LEARN from history, and PRESERVE, not HIDE history and the TRUTH of history. Governor Haley, you set a terrible precedent with your decision to remove the flag. Now New Orleans City Council is contemplating removing monuments of Robert E. Lee et al. This is the kind of acquiescence that precipitated the resignation of the President of U. of MO. Removing Confederate flags, symbols, and monuments is insane! Just as it would be insane to remove religious references and Christian references emblazoned on the Supreme Court building or other buildings because some atheist finds them offensive. Robert E. Lee was and will always remain a great AMERICAN! He fought for America in the Mexican War, in Texas, and served America AFTER the Civil War. He is an AMERICAN. At the very least, put on the SC ballot in 2016 an offer to let the citizens of SC decide to keep the flag or not. Personally, it should be kept flying regardless, but at least put the question on the ballot for the citizenry at large.
