Here is my concern via a possible scenario as I envision it: Think of this scenario. You have a nice pond in your backyard with all kinds of beautiful birds and abundant fishing which your nearby grandson, Henry, loves to fish and swim in with you. Your other two daughter's love to bring their families with 5 more grandkids twice a year to visit and play in the pond. One day a salesman from Exxon stops bye and offers an unbelievable deal if he can drill a well on the far side of the pond. After he leaves Henry asks "Grampa, will it be safe for us to swim in the pond? What will happen to the fish and birds? Can we be sure it will be safe?" You say "I think so, as the odds are pretty low something bad might happen." He says "But what if something bad happens?" Will you be honest with your grandson and tell him "The fish will die and some birds too but the others will find a new home elsewhere. We'll probably vacation up in Michigan with your cousins from now on. Your dog won't be able to drink from the pond and we'll probably move away since it won't be safe for another 30 - 50 years." We know the promised jobs won't happen locally, nor will the faulty assumptions about tax revenue hold up either. There is little to gain and EVERYTHING TO LOSE with this deal. Be honest and reject the sonic testing impact on ocean life and our turtles, etc. If you don't, what will you say to your and our grandchildren when, not if, something bad happens here in the waters off South Carolina??? Thank you for your consideration.
