New pistol range now open at Belfast WMA
The S.C Department of Natural Resources recently completed construction of a pistol range at the Belfast
Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Laurens County at 6655 Hwy 560 near Kinards. The range has a new covered firing line with 15 positions, three of which are handicap accessible and shooting distances up to 50 yards.
In addition to the new pistol range there is also a rifle range.
The Belfast WMA is a 4,664-acre tract located ten miles northwest of Newberry. The property is situated on the Newberry/Laurens County line, with most of the land area in Newberry County. Col. John Simpson of Belfast, Ireland, settled the land in 1786. The historic Belfast Plantation house, located in Laurens County, was built by Col. Simpson in the early 1800's.
