Hello,
 Recently Governor Haley has addressed the subject of Domestic Violence. I would like to talk to her concerning this matter. The focus touches on survivors, families, and offenders. I am a 52 year old married college student. I have a 30 year old felony. I would like to touch on the fact that domestic violence led to this conviction. My father molested me from five years old until I left home at 15. I got married to escape his clutches. I married someone who enjoyed trying to injure me in every way possible. One being ripping my nose almost off with a hammer. I then had no where to go when leaving him, and stayed with a friend of his. He raped me and beat me and hurt me with great malice. I left and finally received help in obtaining an apartment. I was harassed endlessly by this man. I called police and nothing was done. Short version is I tried to stab him in the arm as he was coming at me to harm my 11 month old daughter. Tragically, it went into his chest. He went outside and fell face first and he died. Twenty and poor I was told by a public defender that I would get 5 years probation if I pled guilty. I received 21 yrs. in 1985. Now 30 years later I still am trying to better my self. I cannot intern and finish my bacheleor in science. Hospice and Dss and everyone turns me down. ( There should be a law that if a felon has at least 30 years with no infractions; well given a chance. Domestic violence started it all. I want to help others know that there is help. I want to be a positive model to women, children, men, homeless.. I just want to make a difference and given a chance to do so. I would ask to speak to the Honorable Governor. I am a woman that has fought to better myself. Unfortunately we are told do your time and become a productive citizen. THIS CAN NOT BE DONE. SOCIETY SAYS DIFFERENTLY. PLEASE GIVE ME A FEW MINUTES OF YOUR TIME.
