My daughter is a rising ninth grader to attend Abbeville High School and I am anxious everyday about her entering a school where students are suffering every year from unexplained illness due to the poor conditions of the school. The story was just featured on Fox Carilona but I'm afraid still nothing is going to be done! This school is the same one that my parents attended in the 1970's. Even then there were trash cans in the hallway to collect the leaking rain water!!! I'm faced with the other possible option of sending her to Dixie High School where there are already issues of overcrowding. The physical school itself is not in much better shape and the course offerings are barely sufficient to prepare my daughter for college. As one of your supporters I try to be encouraged by your messages of hope for our education systems in SC. However, it is hard to remain hopeful when year after year nothing is done to improve the quality of education in Abbeville. What used to be a booming small textile community is struggling to find its new identity. The children are the ones suffering because they are not given the tools they need to succeed in this changing economy. We are not just stuck in the past, but going backwards! Our future can NOT be left up to the school board or other parties who are afraid of taking action. Abbeville's youth need you and they need you NOW!!! Sincerely, Erin Freeman (Concerned parent of Abbeville county)
