COLUMBIA, S.C. - The State Law Enforcement
Division charged a Columbia car dealer with misuse of a dealer tag
in connection with allowing Gov. Mark Sanford's spokesman to use a
Corvette for more than a week.
Department of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Beth Parks said J.T.
Gandolfo of Dodgeland of Columbia, "turned in the questionable tag
to DMV and DMV turned the investigation over to SLED."
SLED routinely handles investigations for DMV on incidents
reported by the public, Parks said.
SLED spokeswoman Kathryn Richardson said her agency received that
request on June 14. "On June 15th, we issued a ticket," she
said.
Gandolfo, if he contests the charge, would appear in court on
July 16, Richardson said.
That's "our cabinet agencies doing their job," Folks said.
Gandolfo, who had advised the governor on overhauling the former
state Division of Motor Vehicles, is a friend to Folks and sold him
a car. He loaned Folks the Corvette while he was on vacation when
Folks took his car in for new
tires. |
