(Columbia-AP) -- House members have filed
37 new bills with just one month left before the General Assembly
reconvenes.
Two of those bills target a state retirement
plan. Representative Herb Kirsh says he fears the program will
harm the state retirement system. His bills call for phasing out the
program altogether.
A bill by Representative John Graham
Altman would make the state Education Superintendent part of the
governor's office rather than a separate constitutional office. The
bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee.
Another bill
sponsored by Representatives Billy Witherspoon and Vida Miller would
allow voters to decide whether the state should have a uniform
starting date for all public schools.
Lawmakers return to
Columbia on January 13th. |
