York County magistrate arrested
The Associated
Press
A York County magistrate has been arrested and
charged with taking money from a law firm where she formerly
worked.
Deborah A. Koulpasis, 35, of Tega Cay, was
arrested late Wednesday morning and was released about three
hours later on a $25,000 bond.
Koulpasis, an attorney,
is charged with breech of trust charge related to financial
dealings with the Michael Gillen law firm, where she worked,
said Lt. Jerry Waldrop of the Rock Hill Police
Department.
Koulpasis resigned as magistrate Wednesday
afternoon.
She was let go from the Gillen Law Firm in
May 2005, a police report states. The law firm later found
discrepancies in several deposits. Koulpasis is thought to
have taken the money for her own use, the reports
notes.
The exact amount is still under investigation,
Waldrop said.
Koulpasis served as magistrate for two
years.
