I currently am stuck in my hometown of Columbia, and I am unable to get back to my state job because of the State of Emergency Declaration proposed through the Emergency Management Division concerning roads and highway conditions/closures. I work for Dept. of Mental Health in Greenville, SC, (Greenville Mental Health Center-GMHC) and I have checked the Hazardous Weather Policy (http://www.admin.sc.gov/humanresources/employee-information/benefits-and-leave/hazardous-weather-emergency-leave). Due to us being in a State of Emergency as declared by both our Governor and our President, it seems as though Hazardous Weather Leave would apply to this situation to prevent me from being penalized from having to use personal leave or pay without leave. I have contacted our GMHC HR department (our center is open today), and I have received the following response: "The governor has to approve that type of leave before we can key it. I'm guessing since our town was not affected, that leave will not be considered. Sorry" In this case, I believe I need to take a stand because the results of this natural disaster is out of my control. I am unable to effectively complete my required job responsibilities from home. I'm seeking sound advice from you all. I understand that you and other staff officials are busy due to unfolding circumstances. I'm deeply concerned about this matter and it is a reflection of my personal and professional livelihood. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Kheri Corbin
