South Carolina Registry of Sex Offenders
Last Updated: October 1, 1999

Convicted sex offenders living in South Carolina are required by law to register with the sheriff of the county in which they live. In 1998, the General Assembly passed an amendment -- drafted by the Attorney General's Office -- permitting the public posting of this registry on the Internet. Previously, when parents wanted to find out if their new neighbor was a child molester, they had to go to the sheriff's office and identify the subject by name. Now they can simply consult this website.

This database contains the names and current addresses of all convicted sex offenders as reported by SLED. The information is updated on a monthly basis. You can search for offenders in your area by name, city, county and/or zip code; you can also download a copy of the entire database.

The Attorney General's Office uses the information provided by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to publish the Sex Offender Registry. The Attorney General's Office is not responsible for any errors, typographical or otherwise, contained herein and cannot make corrections or modications to this information. Any corrections must be made through the local Sheriff's Office, which will then contact SLED.

Download the complete Registry as a tab-delimited text file. You must decompress this file in order to view it; to do this, either double-click it or use a decompression utility such as Stuffit Expander. Once it is decompressed, you can view it in a word processor or import it into a Database.

Please note: It is a crime to use this information to commit other crimes, such as attacking an offender listed on this registry. (Section 23-3-510, South Carolina Code of Laws)

This list is posted to alert possible victims of potential danger, not to punish or embarrass offenders. Unfortunately, many sexual predators fail to control their obsessive impulses and repeat their offenses. Clearly, the State has a greater responsibility to ensure the safety of victims than to protect the privacy of convicted criminals.
