Sue:

We have received her letter.   Ms. Lohr did not like our investigative findings, which the department completed in a thorough manner by a qualified team from our agency.  In addition, the provider was notified only 12 hours before our arrival.

We will again, reemphasize our position with a letter, however, Ms. Lohr wants wholesale change at the local facility.  While we contract with the facility for services, state law requires the local County Council to make the decision as to who is appointed the local county authority.  In addition, the Beaufort County Commission is under direct control of county government, which maintains hiring and firing jurisdiction over the director.  This is her continued issue with the facility, she is unhappy with the leadership and local officials have not moved to follow her recommendations.

DAODAS visits the provider each year and audits a range of prevention, treatment and financial indicators.  In addition, the provider is state licensed by DHEC and nationally accredited through the Commission on Rehabilitation Facilities.

Again, we will move to address her concerns as best we can, but we don’t’ believe we can ultimately resolve her main issue, that being the leadership at the local provider which is not in our jurisdiction.
