Gov. Sanford Criss-Crosses State To Discuss Budget Priorities

Gov. Mark Sanford was in Clinton Tuesday afternoon talking about how fast the Legislature's budget is growing state government.

Sanford said after tax breaks and repaying trust reserve accounts state spending will increase by more than 30 percent.

He said he'll veto hundreds of millions of dollars in the budget that will hit his desk on Wednesday. But he would not say exactly how much he plans to veto.

Sanford's stop at a building supply store in Clinton also was a chance for him to talk up state Rep. Jeff Duncan's re-election bid.

The Laurens Republican faces Rob Clapper in the June 13 primary.

Sanford said Duncan has helped him out in the Legislature and should be returned to Columbia.
