I am the owner of Meow, Bark and Board, a boarding kennel in Huger, SC. I am writing to voice my opinion on the upcoming bill review that will significantly effect my business as well as EVERY OTHER boarding kennel and doggie day care facility in SC. I have read the bill. There are, in fact, some valid points being made. However, the majority of the requirements for business owners and their staff are extreme and expensive. The proposed committee is an unfair representation of the animal care community. I am suggesting that the state contact the International Boarding and Pet Services Association in order to formulate a reasonable bill that will hold boarding kennels, doggie day care facilities, pet sitters, groomers, dog walkers and all other "Animal Care Professionals" accountable for their actions and lack thereof. The certification process being proposed is excessive. SC doesn't require Vet Techs to be certified (one of the only states that does NOT require certification), so why are we now going to require non medical animal caretakers to become certified and renew the certification annually? The insurance requirements proposed are expensive for business owners. I pray that this exact bill is not accepted. I would love to speak more openly about this topic if so desired. Thank you for your time!
