HEAL Restaurants Staff and the Heimlich Maneuver 66.153.147.22 Dear Governor Haley: I've written a hard copy regarding this in the past, however, I received no reply. After nearly dying in a restaurant while the staff beat on my back to clear my airway (which does not work) a fellow diner pushed them out of the way and saved my life. I have asked workers in other restaurants if they knew the Heimlich Maneuver. I have yet to receive a positive response. I believe restaurant owners should be required to teach the procedure to all workers. It takes all of five minutes to teach so the financial hardship this would require is pretty mild. It doesn't happen often, but it did happen to me and my son is very happy that that fellow diner was there, as I am. As I live alone, I have learned how to do this procedure on myself. Hope it works. Please consider legislation requiring restaurants to teach this to employees. It's harder to get in your car than it is to do this and in the off chance someone is choking, their life can be saved. I can attest to the fact that it is a horrible way to die. Other than that flag deal, you are such a great governor that I don't mind paying my taxes. I've never said that before moving here. Warmest regards, Bob
